Meet Kristin
Educator | Researcher | Writer
Hi! My name is Kristin. I recently graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with my PhD in Physics with a focus on Physics Education Research.
Educator
With nearly 10 years working with students in the classroom, the wilderness, and one-on-one, I am passionate about helping people understand math and science so that they can pursue their goals, whatever those may be!
I offer one-on-one and small group tutoring both virtually and in person.
Researcher
In graduate school, my work focused on understanding how students feel about upper-division lab courses. I studied their experiences with teamwork, working on authentic projects, and preparing for careers in the quantum industry.
I will be beginning a postdoc at California State University Fullerton in September 2026 focusing on designing and testing curriculum for a newly redesigned PhET simulation on quantum bound states!
Writer
Although I write about science now, writing fiction was my first love as a child. Now, I’m trying my hand at essays! My Substack is where I post random, (usually) non-sciency musings about being a human in community.
Tutoring Services
I offer one-on-one and small group tutoring in physical science, physics, and math for students in 7th grade through college. I specialize in working with young women who do not feel confident in their math skills and building mathematical literacy and confidence over time.
Testimonials
“We enlisted Kristin’s help for our college sophomore who was struggling to maintain a low C in Calc physics. He finished the semester with a solid A!!!!! Can’t praise her enough!!”
Rates
“First meeting with my daughter was a 90 minute session focused on physics and stats. She found Kristin very helpful, kind, and effective. We hope to continue working with her.”
Research
In August 2026, I will be starting a new job as a postdoctoral researcher at California State University Fullerton. I will be designing and studying curricula to help students interact with the newly redesigned Quantum Bound States PhET simulation.
If you’re not familiar with PhET, check out their simulations! PhET is based out of the University of Colorado Boulder and designs all sorts of science and math simulations.
For the last five years, I have been a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Colorado Boulder. I have worked on a variety of projects examining student views on their upper-division physics laboratory classes.
Writing
My Substack is non-academic in nature and contains essays about organzing, anticapitalism, and life as someone who cares about these things.
